Make sure that you have food, water, and someplace for your pet to settle down while you wait out the storm. If your pet is nervous, consider also keeping a thundershirt in the shelter to help ease their storm anxiety.

First Aid Kit

Hopefully, you will be able to entirely avoid injury. However, in the event that someone gets hurt it is always a good idea to have a first aid kit on hand to patch up the injured party. If you ever find yourself using the supplies, make sure that you are replenishing the kit so that you don’t end up short supplied next time you’re in need.


Always have some sort of lighting available in your storm shelter. A flashlight is small and easy to store and is, therefore, is a good thing to have on hand in your storm shelter. Make sure that you have extra batteries so you’re never without a light source.


A radio is a great thing to have in your storm shelter as it will let you know more about how the storm is progressing. Keep one in your storm shelter and make sure that you have extra batteries on hand.
